Take a stroll by the Ljubljanica, along the promenade that cuts through the old part of the city, and you’ll soon smell the coffee wafting from Maček, a legendary café of many years’ standing. The large outdoor seating area, at a select location right on the riverbank and a mere stone’s throw away from the major sights of the city, attracts people from all generations and walks of life. In the summer months there are workshops and events for children, and in the winter the outdoor area is heated, so you’ll still be able to enjoy a drink (and a cigarette) as the temperatures drop. And of course, fine music, excellent coffee and a wide selection of some of Slovenia’s best wines are available all year round, whatever the weather. Those who like to surf while they slurp can take advantage of the free wifi.
